Yvonne Kunihira-Davidson specializes in the taxation and regulatory compliance aspects of the US Qualified Intermediary (“QI”) and Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (“FATCA”) regimes. She provides advice and audit defense to the firm’s clients in this area, as well as supporting the firm’s IRS litigation team. Her clients include major financial institutions and multinational corporations headquartered in the major international financial services jurisdictions.

Prior to joining the firm, Yvonne was a director in the Financial Services Regulatory Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (“PwC”). At PwC, Yvonne was the global coordinator of QI audit and advisory services provided by the PricewaterhouseCoopers network firms, and represented PwC as part of the IRS sponsored QI industry practitioner working group.

In addition to Ms. Kunihira-Davidson’s extensive experience with the United States withholding and reporting rules for both US and non-US persons, she has extensive experience not only in advising clients regarding compliance with the European, UK and US financial services industry regulatory regimes, but has also led large regulatory investigations for the UK Financial Services Authority (“FSA”) and other major regulators. This makes her well placed to advise clients as they make changes to their IT and operational systems and processes to ensure prospective compliance not only with QI and FATCA rules, but also their interplay with local rules.
